The Board of
Trustees of The Baptist Home agreed unanimously on September 12, 2006 to begin a
five year commitment to support a Belarusian home for the elderly. Belarusian
Baptist leaders have named the Baptist House of Mercy. In Belarus a “house of
mercy” is the equivalent to a nursing or care facility in the United States.
This home will be distinguished by its mission from the rest because of its ties
with Belarusian Baptists.
A capital campaign is underway to raise $500,000 to go toward building renovations and furnishings and an endowment fund to provide continued supplemental support as long as the Baptist House of Mercy stays within its stated purpose. The Baptist Home has determined to provide support for this campaign for the next five years to help Belarusian Baptists lay a solid foundation for a ministry that will care for the elderly well into the future.
