FAQ

TBH Home Page

The Baptist Home has provided quality ministries to Senior Adults for over 94 years. This is made possible with the help of faithful donors, like you. Below are ways in which donors have used different types of gifting to support this ministry. All gifts are promptly acknowledged with a tax receipt for donor records. The Baptist Home is an IRS 501 (c) (3) tax exempt organization. The Federal Identification Number is 43-0662474. For more information and assistance with gifting opportunities, please contact The Baptist Home by calling (573) 546-2709 or email: desk@thebaptisthome.org or write to The Baptist Home Corporate Office, P.O. Box 87, Ironton, MO 63650-0087.

Gifts of Cash

Gifts of cash are the most common ways of supporting The Baptist Home and its ministries. Gifts of cash are made by personal or corporate check payable to The Baptist Home. When itemizing deductions, an outright gift of cash is deductible for federal and state income tax purposes to the fullest extent allowed by law. Up to 50% of a donor’s adjusted gross income may be deducted and any unused deduction may carry over up to five years.

Gifts of Securities

Gifts of stocks or bonds may offer double tax savings. A tax deduction is allowed for the full fair market value of the stock on the date the gift is received. Also, a donor may avoid paying capital gains tax on the increase in value of the stock. Consultation with a professional tax advisor or attorney is beneficial. A development officer at The Baptist Home is available to help you coordinate the transfer of stock.

Corporate Matching Gifts

Many corporations have adopted corporate matching gift plans to support charitable causes, such as The Baptist Home. In this way, a donor can effectively double or even triple his or her gift. If you are an employee, spouse of an employee, retiree or served on the Board of Directors of a company that has a matching gift program, you may request a matching gift form at the company’s Human Resources or Personnel Office. After completing your part of the form, include the form with your gift and send it directly to The Baptist Home. The Home verifies the contribution and returns the form to the sponsoring company. Matching gifts are credited to the same fund as your original gift and are credited to the individual donor for purposes of recognition. Your original gift is deductible for federal and state income tax purposes to the fullest extent allowed by law.

Gifts of Life Insurance

To provide a gift from life insurance, a donor may name The Baptist Home both the owner and beneficiary of a permanent life insurance policy. If the policy is paid in full, a donor can receive a charitable tax deduction equal to the policy's cash value. If premiums are still due, a donor can claim a charitable contribution deduction for the amount of the annual payments. Or a donor may want to designate The Baptist Home the sole or partial beneficiary of a life insurance policy. Your life insurance agent can provide the appropriate forms to complete this type of gift.

Gifts of Tangible Personal or Titled Property

Tangible personal or titled property includes any item with a determinable value such as artwork and jewelry or titled property such as an automobile and real estate. The Baptist Home reviews and approves property donations. If the property is related to the institution's mission, a donor may deduct its fair market value as a charitable contribution, including delivery costs. If The Baptist Home uses the gift in a manner unrelated to its mission, your deduction is limited to the cost basis of the property or the amount received when it is liquidated. The IRS has established appraisal rules for such gifts and a Development Officer from the Corporate Office will coordinate with anyone interested in making a contribution of tangible or titled property.

Memorial and Tribute Gifts

Memorial and tribute gifts honor special people and occasions. This is a unique way to recognize those who have touched your life. A tribute gift is a thoughtful remembrance for any occasion and will provide a lasting memory for generations to come. For individual memorial or tribute gifts greater than $20, an announcement card acknowledging the special gift is sent to the honoree, or family of a loved one. All memorial and tribute gifts are acknowledged in The Baptist Home quarterly newsletter. The gift is deductible for federal and state income tax purposes to the fullest extent allowed by law and is credited to the individual donor for purposes of recognition.

Gifts beyond a Lifetime

An endowment gift to The Baptist Home will help ensure the continuation of our vital ministry. It is a gift that is:

bullet

Everlasting . . . An endowment gift provides everlasting financial support to meet the care needs of elderly men and women.

bullet

Enduring . . . Endowment gifts ensure the continuation of our elder care ministry and serve as an enduring legacy to future generations.

bullet

Empowering . . . Endowment fund gifts empower The Baptist Home board and staff to provide excellent Christian care for the elderly now and in the future.

Planned Giving

Planned or deferred gifts are commitments made in the present that benefit The Baptist Home at a future date. Some planned gifts provide current charitable tax deductions as well as income for you or your beneficiaries.

Bequests

Donors may choose to include The Baptist Home as a beneficiary in a will or revocable living trust. A charitable bequest in a will or trust may provide estate tax savings. The Baptist Home’s Development Staff is available to assist you by gathering the information needed by an attorney to prepare your will or trust. Also, staff can arrange to share information with individuals and groups by conducting an Estate Planning Seminar.

Charitable Gift Annuities

A Charitable Gift Annuity is an arrangement funded by a contribution of cash, securities or real estate in exchange for an assured income for life for either one or two people. Attractive rates vary based on age and offer continuing tax benefits. Income from a charitable gift annuity can be deferred, thereby receiving a better rate while receiving significant tax benefits. At the death of either one or two designated people, the remaining corpus of the annuity is transferred to The Baptist Home. The Baptist Senior Ministries Foundation of The Baptist Home can provide a donor a Single-Life Charitable Gift Annuity for a minimum contribution of $5,000 or a Two-Life Charitable Gift Annuity for a minimum contribution of $10,000.

Charitable Remainder Trusts or Unitrusts

Charitable Remainder Trusts may be established by irrevocably transferring cash, securities or real estate to the trust. The trust assets are invested to pay income to you or another beneficiary for life or for a specified term. When the trust matures, the trust assets are distributed to The Baptist Home. The Baptist Senior Ministries Foundation of The Baptist Home can provide the donor a Charitable Remainder Trust or a Charitable Remainder Unitrust. Both provide income for life, a charitable deduction and, if you contribute stock or real estate, may eliminate capital gains tax on the appreciated value.
