-
Be sure your church is receiving the complimentary
number of newsletters it needs for the people. Let
The Baptist Home development
officer for your church know if the number needs to be changed.
-
In the
Newsletter each
quarter is a Needs List for
the Home. Ask someone in your church to be the representative for helping the church
collect some of the items needed for one more of the campuses.
-
Contact your Baptist Home development officer or call
one of the campuses and ask for an Adopt-A- Resident partnership. Adopt-A-Resident
means sending greeting cards, remembering birthdays, visiting the resident whenever
possible, cards and letters from the children in your church, and the
like.
-
If your church has a youth ministry, ask the youth
minister or your lay volunteer leaders to arrange to lead a worship service for the
residents of a particular campus.
-
Ask the Administrator of any of the campuses if there
is a “work project” that a group from your church could help complete.
-
Invite your senior adult leadership to participate in
the Senior Adult Retreats sponsored each year by The Baptist Home—one in spring
and one in the fall.
-
Invite the senior adult specialist from The Baptist
Home to present a program to the median and senior adults on a topic or topics on
interest to your people.
-
Consider involving The Baptist Home in some way in your
annual Senior Adult Sunday. Staff from TBH are available to speak in your
worship service or at a banquet for seniors along with any other kind of special program.
-
Bring a group of people to visit one of the campuses
during the week. Be sure to let the campus administrator know they are coming
so the campus can be prepared to be a good host for them.
-
Invite TBH staff to conduct a general estate planning
seminar for your church. Young married, median and senior adults alike
need to have final plans in place for their children and families.
-
Invite your Minister of Music or music director to
bring one or more choirs to lead in worship through singing,
hand bells, mime or their
orchestra.
-
Invite your church to help sponsor a bar-be-que or
homemade ice cream experience for the residents at the campus you select.
-
Bring the church’s children [with plenty of
sponsors!] to one of the campuses to sing or play instruments as well as visit with
the residents. This is a wonderful time to begin teaching children to build relationships with older
adults.
-
Invite a influential leader in your church to work
with the members to see if any of the companies they work for or have retired from have
a program of matching gifts to charitable organizations. The Baptist Home will work with you.
-
Constantly evaluate your church’s contributions to
The Baptist Home which are so much appreciated.
-
Ask senior adult leadership to become Prayer Partners
weekly for TBH’s residents and staff.
-
Set up a Birthday Card Buddy system. Birthday Card
Buddies send a card to each of the residents on their birthdays or anniversaries.
These are listed in the Newsletter each
quarter.
-
Contact the administrator of the campus nearest you to
see if members of your church can help with special events.
-
Members of your church could become Santa’s Helper.
Each year many Baptists from around the state help The Baptist Home buy a
special Christmas gift for each resident. Christmas gift forms are found each autumn in the
Word
and Way and The
Baptist Home Newsletter.
-
Members of your church could provide leadership to
conduct Bible studies, missions and ministry programs or special musical
services, such as, holiday worship services for which the church has already prepared for their own
church and even community. Bringing this to The Baptist Home would
very special to the residents.
